What to Do in a Dental Emergency?
Use these guidelines to make sure you receive the necessary fast treatment should you have a dental emergency:
Stay Calm: Try to provide an accurate description of the pain/problem i.e. site in the mouth, type of pain (dull /sharp), duration of problem, any previous episodes.
Get in touch: Out of hours – NHS 111.
Monday-Sat – call 020 8289 3388. You will be offered a slot on the day OR within 24hrs.
Pain control: Take paracetamol (no more than 8/day) or ibuprofen (no more than 6/day, avoid if you have stomach ulcers and take with food).
Use the other side of the mouth: Stay away from the affected area as much as possible. If it is swollen – use hot saltwater rinsing and cold compress.
