The keyword here is ‘fluoride’, which is a naturally occurring mineral found in your bones, teeth, and water throughout the world. This naturally occurring mineral protects your teeth when you eat and drink, as every food you consume leaves a trace of sugar and starch on your teeth. Fluoride counters this problem in two ways!

    1. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel (protective layer on the outside of your teeth) and that added strength makes your teeth less susceptible to chipping and cracking.
    2. It is great for building up the enamel.

Although fluoride is the main component in toothpaste, anything extra is a bonus and is usually specifically aimed at the concern you may be encountering. Optimum oral hygiene is important and is achieved by brushing your teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Daily flossing, eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals. Ensuring that you visit your dentist atleast once a year for a dental checkup.

The bacteria in your mouth feed on sugars and starches that remain on your teeth after eating. The fluoride aids and protects your teeth from the acid that is released when this happens. Fluoride makes your tooth enamel stronger and less likely to suffer acid damage. It can reverse the early stages of acid damage by solidifying areas that have started to decay. Strong enamel = fewer chances of experiencing different forms of painful tooth decay.

If your tooth is broken, chipped, or fractured, we advise that you book an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. By not doing so, your tooth could become further damaged or infected which in turn can possibly cause you to end up losing the tooth. Dental bonding may be a procedure that your dentist may use; in which a tooth-coloured resin material (a durable plastic material) is applied to the tooth surface to improve the appearance of the discoloured or chipped tooth.

You should book a FREE dental implant consultation with Dr. Faiz, who will guide you through the best treatment option(s) for you, based on your individual needs; he will want to ensure that you meet the basic requirements before treatment can commence.

By scheduling your baby’s first dentist appointment, you will already be ahead of the game! At ConfiDental Care we believe that prevention is always best and by starting your child young, you can begin establishing a rhythm of these important wellness visits. The first dental visit will serve as the steppingstone by allowing your child to become comfortable and familiar with the dental settings.

The dentist will initially do a thorough oral examination by checking your child’s mouth to make sure the teeth are growing healthy, take a good look at their gums, tongue, and see if there is anything that could affect your child’s speech as they continue to develop. The dentist will discuss a range of tips in order to ensure the oral health of your baby is healthy by avoiding sugary beverages/foods and not allowing your baby to fall asleep with their bottle. “Baby bottle decay” can occur when a baby has had a bottle of milk, formula, or another liquid that has been in their mouth for a prolonged time, which as a result can lead to decay.
