Tooth bonding (also known as resin bonding) is the application of a composite /tooth-coloured resin material to repair minor damages on the tooth.

What is tooth bonding?

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-coloured hard wearing resin material  is applied to the tooth surface. Bonding is an uncomplicated procedure that normally does not require numbing of the tooth.
Once the tooth has been shaped, the bonded material will begin to look like a natural tooth. A special ultraviolet light is used to harden the material, which ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth.

Who will benefit from tooth bonding?

• Decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
• To repair chipped or cracked teeth
• Discoloured teeth
• Spaces between teeth
• Make teeth look longer
• Improve and change the shape of teeth
• As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings
• To protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed when gums recede

Advantages of Dental Bonding

FAST treatment time – Teeth bonding can be convenient for you since the procedure is usually fast and efficient. You only need to go for one visit and multiple teeth can be transformed in a single appointment !

Less extensive – The dentist only removes a small amount of the tooth’s enamel, so there should be no pain involved compared to dental crowns and veneers.

Affordable – Teeth can be the greatest assets a person has. That is why many people are investing to have that ‘perfect smile’. Modern techinques allow smile transformation via teeth bonding at lower costs  compared to dental crowns or veneers. From simple single tooth solutionss to mutliple teeth bonding is a durable solution for the smile.

Certain types of bonding ( multiple teeth ) have been patented into specific techniques e.g. Smile FAST which are discussed further down. The results can be amazing ! At Confidental Care we are able to deliver your desired outcome.

It is best to consult your dentist about the best cosmetic approach for your problem.

Dental Bonding video

A simple and effective technique used to improve a ‘harsh’/uneven smile creating a pleasing end result.

Tooth contouring treats are recognised under a variety of names: enameloplasty, odontoplasty, stripping, slenderizing – but in the end they all refer to the same simple cosmetic dental procedure ‘tooth contouring’ which can fix slightly imperfect teeth quickly, painlessly and affordably!

When is tooth contouring used?

Tooth reshaping is a simple and painless procedure, carried out in a short 30-minute session with some dental polishing instruments. Once your tooth has been contoured to your and your dentist’s satisfaction, it is polished to ensure the tooth surface looks and feels smooth and natural.

Who can benefit from dental contouring?

Dental contouring is great if you are concerned about any minor cosmetic dental issues where teeth may look uneven , sharp or have jagged edges resulting in a ‘harsh’ look. Less minor issues like crooked, crowded or very misshapen teeth typically require a different cosmetic procedure, such as dental bonding, veneers, SmileFast, crowns, or orthodontics. It is not unusual for your dentist to adopt a combination of these techniques to acheive the final outcome.

Advantages of dental contouring?

1. Aesthetic improvement – The smile is aesthetically improved when a misshapen tooth’s appearance is changed with tooth contouring.
2. Speech improvement – Speech may become clearer after a tooth contouring procedure, especially if the treated tooth is causing speech problems.
3. Easier chewing and biting on food – Mealtimes will be easier to enjoy when a misshapen tooth is improved by altering its shape and contours.
4. Improved oral health – Properly aligned and shaped teeth will be easier to clean.

Advanced white resins allow us to re-create natural tooth-coloured fillings by safe removal of old metal ones!

What is a composite (resin) filling?

As well as for repair ( above) composite fillings can be used in the front or the back of the mouth to restore strength and function to damaged teeth. Your dentist can build up cracked or chipped teeth with a white filling to restore each tooth to its original look and feel or, it can be used to close gaps, reshape uneven or short teeth and filling cavities caused by tooth decay.

Who can benefit from composite fillings?

A procedure for minor dental corrections, white fillings offer a quick and affordable way to correct a variety of dental situations such as:

• For those who want to seal small cracks and chips in their teeth, especially front teeth
• Closing slight gaps between teeth
• Reshaping short or uneven teeth
• Tooth decay and the filling of cavities
• Discoloration
• Replace metal or amalgam fillings

Advantages of composite fillings?

Colour match – The filling blends in, since they are colour-matched with your natural tooth colour
Moderate cavity – They can be used to fill small to moderate cavities in the front or back teeth
Bonding – The resin compound bonds well to tooth enamel, making fillings less likely to fall off. The material provides greater strength, which helps prevent breakages
Multipurpose – They are versatile enough to also be used to fix superficial flaws, like a small chip in a tooth
Aesthetic – Composite fillings are aesthetically pleasing since they match your natural tooth colour and appearance
Non-invasive – your tooth requires less drilling, so not as much tooth structure needs to be removed
Repairable – A huge advantage is the versatility of the material i.e. after several years the material can wear – this is solved by adding to existing resin, simple !

Easing the burden of losing a tooth, making the process as smooth as possible, and managing the associated anxiety. Our experienced and sympathetic clinicians are competent to manage a variety of cases and discuss suitable replacement teeth where appropriate.

If you are unhappy with a damaged, unsightly or discoloured tooth – or even if you have an old or broken restoration – a dental crown may be the right choice to restore your tooth and regain your bite and perfect smile!

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a synthetic cap, usually made from a material called porcelain, which is placed on the top of a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance following a restorative procedure.

Who can benefit from a crown?

When you have damaged your teeth or lost tooth structure, perhaps due to tooth decay or a dental fracture, the best choice of dental restoration is often a dental crown.

There are various situations when your dentist might recommend a crown;
• To restore your tooth if it is heavily filled, chipped and is weak from decay, slowly breaking it down
• Protecting a tooth which has had root canal work
• If you desire to improve the appearance and practicality of your teeth
• To restore additional protection after you tooth may have broken down or severely worn down
• You need a crown to cover a dental implant
• If you would like to simply cover misshaped or severely discoloured tooth
• If you feel that your crown is loose and unstable – the causes can either be by the cement beneath the crown or by the tooth itself.

What are the advantages of a crown?

Teeth straightening – Cosmetic dental crowns can be used to improve tooth alignment (straighten teeth), improve colour, shape, size and many other cosmetic concerns.

Material – Crowns can be made from a variety of different materials, depending on the patient’s need and preference. Full Metal Crowns Porcelain Fused to Metal, crowns, Pressed Ceramic Crowns and Emax/Zirconia Crowns. The latter are highly aesthetic and examples are in our Smile Gallery

Highly realistic – These materials (above) can have similar properties to natural teeth in weight and texture, making them blend in and look aesthetically pleasing.

Dental bridges are a form of replacement teeth that are designed to fill the spaces left by missing teeth. They can be invaluably beneficial both for health and cosmetic reasons.

Your dentist will create a dental bridge of the correct dimensions.

What are dental bridges?

Dental Bridges are made up of dental crowns joined together to fill the gaps of one or more missing teeth. The ‘false’ tooth is called a ‘pontic’ and is generally fused in between two crowns which behave as anchors supporting the false tooth i.e – ‘bridging the gap’.

Dental bridges can be supported by natural teeth or dental implants. No matter which treatment route your dentist advises, the result is the same — a perfectly bridged gap. Different designs are available ( adhesive bridges vs conventional dental bridges) see below. The dentist is happy to recommend the most suitable option.

Who would benefit from a dental bridge?

If you have lost one or more teeth, you have likely noticed a negative effect on the function, appearance, and health of your smile. It may be more difficult to speak, chew, and eat as normal, and you may feel embarrassed about your smile because of the gaps left by missing teeth. To restore your smile and self-confidence, your dentist may recommend a dental bridge. A bridge can be used replace one/several missing tooth/teeth.

When in place, a bridge can improve your smile by:

• Restoring the natural shape and volume of your face
• Improving your ability to properly chew, speak, and eat
• Enhancing the beauty of your smile
• Preventing the remaining teeth from moving into the space left by the missing teeth
• Relieving uneven stress on the bite
• Replacing an unwanted removable partial denture
• If you have damaged teeth alongside a healthy tooth or an implant
• If patients who have just had a tooth extraction get dental bridges to prevent further damage.
• Patients wanting to have a fuller smile or tooth structure opt for dental bridges.
• Children born with an abnormal jaw where no permanent teeth could grow can get removable dental bridges.

Advantages of a dental bridge?

Simple procedure – Dental bridges are less invasive than procedures like dental implants. It is a great alternative for those who cannot undergo surgical procedures due to medical reasons.

Functionality – Another important benefit is the ability to chew properly and to speak clearly. After a patient loses a tooth or teeth, it can be challenging or uncomfortable to chew certain types of food , the pronunciation of words or the embouchure can also suffer. A dental bridge can solve this.

Appearance – Improves the overall look of your smile.

Faster procedure than implants – It’s much quicker and easier to get dental bridges (only a few weeks at the most), whereas implants may take several months.

Aesthetically, a dental bridge can compensate for the loss of the original teeth, particularly if the bridge is closely matched in colour to the surrounding teeth.

Prevent Teeth from Moving – A dental bridge can help you keep your natural teeth in place. When you fill in gaps along your gum line with a restorative element like a dental bridge, your other natural teeth are much less likely to drift and become loose.

Enhances speaking and pronunciation – Dental Bridges improves your natural speaking and also improves you’re eating and chewing abilities. Dental bridges fill the gaps in the teeth and this could help you speak without any inhibition.

Long-lasting – With appropriate oral hygiene, a dental bridge can last successfully for approximately ten years.

Easy maintenance – Dental bridges are preferred by many patients due to the ease of maintenance associated with them. After some time, our patients become accustomed to them. Since these are permanently fixed to the abutment teeth, they do not need to be regularly removed for cleaning. Instead, they can easily be cleaning by brushing, flossing (super floss), and mouthwash.

Bite – They correct and redistribute the normal bite force, compromised by your missing teeth.

Comfort – Getting used to your new dental bridge is usually easy and comfortable.

Bone loss – A bridge lowers the risk of bone loss consequently, maintaining the structures of your face.

For many this is the final piece in the ‘jig-saw puzzle’ or if you are already happy with the shape of your teeth then perhaps it’s your first port of call-in order to give your teeth the ‘celebrity’ look.

We choose to provide home whitening – this involves using custom made trays made by your Dentist into which professional whitening agent is placed to achieve a pleasing final result.

What is tooth whitening?

At-home zoom bleaching requires an impression of the teeth to be taken to make a customized mouth tray to hold the whitening gel, against the teeth. Once the mouth tray is made, it is worn for a period of time, as instructed by your dentist. A shade of your teeth is recorded initially and then compared to the final desired outcome!

Who can benefit from tooth whitening?

• If you have achieved a desired smile and would like to add a touch of brightness to the overall look
• For couples or individuals that have a wedding or special occasion in the near future!
• It removes the staining agent through chemical means
• If you are going through a smile makeover and wish to have all your dental restorations in the same shade

Advantages of tooth whitening?

Serious Self-Esteem Boost – The majority of people tie a significant portion of their self-worth to how they look. So, when pursuing tooth whitening, expect an immediate boost in the way you feel about yourself. You and your smile will be glowing and believe us when we say people will notice the new you!

100% Safe, Professional Teeth Whitening – If you are considering doing tooth whitening via an over-the-counter treatment, think again, as these chemicals can cause severe damage to your gums and the enamel around your teeth. However, having whitening done professionally at ConfiDental Care, you can expect the process to be comfortable and that the broader health of your mouth will get taken care of. Along with this, you can also expect professional advice on how to continue to maintain your new bright smile!

Maintenance – With the custom-made trays and whitening gel you are able to freshen your pearly whites when it suits you to maintain those pearly whites.

Staining – It is important that you avoid foods and drinks that stain your teeth during the first 24 hours if you can, to get the optimum result. Everyone’s teeth have a protective layer called the acquired pellicle. This layer contains surface stains and is removed during the whitening procedure and takes approximately 24 hours for this barrier to fully develop again.

Food and drinks to avoid; dark foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, dark soft drinks, red wine, and dark sauces, in order to minimise re-staining.

Before you get your teeth whitened, your dentist may advise you to book yourself for a cosmetic clean appointment to remove calculus or tartar from your teeth. This will ensure that the teeth whitening treatment works efficiently.

Please speak with your dentist about how dental treatment can benefit you.

An adhesive bridge is a bridge that consists of a replacement lief-like tooth ( in resin/porcelain) attached to a  hidden ‘wing’  ( made of metal/procelian or resin) which glues onto the adjacent tooth.

What is an adhesive/Stick on bridge?

This treatment involves minimal drilling and is the more cost-effective way of ‘filling’ a gap in your smile.
Advances in Dentistry allow us to provide more aesthetic (non-metal adhesive bridges)  which use  porcelain or resin fibers.

Splinting of loose teeth combined with/without replacment of gaps – PERIODONTAL SPLINTING

The latter technique can be adapted to provide stabilty to loose teeth by using a modified resin ( infused with special fibres) to combine the replacement of gaps with binding loose teeth at the same time.

Who would benefit from an adhesive/Stick on bridge?

The gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain on the teeth on either side. A gap can also mean that your ‘bite’ is affected because the teeth next to the ‘space’ can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to food getting packed into the gaps which cause both decay and gum disease.

What are the advantages of an adhesive/Stick on bridge?

Non-invasive – Only minimal preparation of the adjacent tooth is required. This is much healthier for the supporting tooth than removing a large amount of enamel and dentine in order to make a retaining crown.
Cheaper – Adhesive bridges are also much less expensive than crown retained bridges.

Tooth loss can occur due to age, injury, gum disease, or lifestyle choices. It is important for patients to understand that treatment does not have to end with lifelong partial or full dentures.

Dental Implants offer a superior alternative to other options when restoring your confidence and self-esteem. The ‘fixed’ nature of the outcome is unsurpassed as a treatment option in terms of longevity and aesthetics.

Dental Implants have become a mainstream treatment option and not the domain of the rich anymore. The process is straightforward, in fact, many of our patients are so pleased with the process, that they have returned for further Implants! The recurring theme patients express is that the outcome merits to outlay !

At ConfiDental Care we offer a full range of implant options.

What is a dental implant?

A Dental Implant is a special (metal) titanium screw that bonds to your bone and then is covered with a crown to give you a natural-looking replacement tooth that stands on its own without affecting the nearby teeth and provides long lasting stability.

Who would benefit from dental implants?

Implants are the next best thing we can provide to a natural tooth and can be used to :

• replace single damaged or several missing tooth
• Stabilise dentures that may be moving around
• In fact, we can even replace dentures completely – by providing a complete set of fixed teeth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Appearance – A dental implant provides you with the most natural-looking replacement for teeth that have been lost.
Function – Improved speech and comfort, with poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without the fear that your dentures may slip out of place.
Improved eating – Chewing with dentures can be difficult. Whereas dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your foods with confidence and without discomfort.
Aesthetically – Your dentist will aim to produce a smile makeover strategy that will enhance your own facial features and identify where the brand new and enhanced smile looks healthy and is unique to you!
Damage – Dental bridges rely on neighbouring teeth for anchor and support, whereas dental implants are fused into your jawbone. This protects your remaining teeth from damage or strain.
Longevity – Dental implants will last longer than other restorative procedures if taken proper care of. Other tooth replacement options will need to be repaired or replaced periodically, but dental implants are designed to last for the rest of your life.
Bite strength – Dental implants will provide you the same bite strength as your natural teeth and prevent the bone to erode over time. Compared to dentures give there is only half the bite strength of natural teeth which loose strength over time.
Self-esteem – Dental implants can give you back your smile and help you feel better about yourself.
No cavities – Dental implants cannot get cavities, as the implanted post, abutment, and crown is constructed from artificial materials. However, brushing, flossing and overall good oral hygiene routines are still important to protect the gums and periodontal structures that support your implant.
Implant care – As they are fixed permanently in place, caring for them is generally quite easy as you would practice the same oral care as you would for your real teeth. This entails brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits.

Treatment costs have fallen in the last few years making them more affordable than ever before. We offer 0% interest-free payments thereby spreading the cost over 12 months where applicable.

Snoring is common and can be more than just a nuisance to partners and the family.

Almost half of all adult’s snore and 60% of men over the age of 60 years are habitual snorers. Snoring is more common in men than in pre-menopausal women. After the menopause, snoring in women approaches that seen in men.

Snoring can lead to excessive tiredness during the day where the body is unable to get adequate rest; in many cases sleep is achieved.
However, it is the effect on one’s partners which drives the desire to seek treatment.

What is OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea)?

In more severe cases where excessive tiredness occurs during the day further assessment to check for mild or severe OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea) is important.
OSA occurs when breathing is reduced to the degree where it stops during the night at various intervals causing the body to ‘fight’ for breath. This compounds a variety of medical problems including increased stress on the blood vessels and heart. Patients who have OSA may be completely unaware; it is important to manage such conditions via referral.

Sleep Medicine video

How can snoring be treated?

Your dentist is well placed to screen you for the above problems. Advice includes: –
a) Lifestyle changes like avoiding sedative medication and alcohol close to bedtime, regular exercise, losing weight, and sleeping on one’s side.
If your snoring is worse when you’re sleeping on your back, you may find sleeping on your side beneficial (wearing a top with a pocket stitched between the shoulder blades and putting a tennis or golf ball in the pocket can help keep you off your back when you sleep).

Ear plugs

If your snoring isn’t causing you health problems but is affecting your partner, asking them to wear earplugs during the night may be a cheap and effective way of resolving the issue.
b) Referral to your GP if you feel your medication may be contributing to your snoring, as they may be able to prescribe alternatives. However, don’t stop taking prescribed medication without consulting your GP first.
c) Screening for OSA and referral if needed.
d) Using a ‘MAD’ (Mandibular Advancement Device). This device is worn at night and gently brings the jaw forward for better airflow during sleep thereby reducing snoring. The best ‘MAD’ are custom made to fit exactly and rely upon sound teeth for placement and use. Your Dentist will advise.

Below image: MAD device

e) Soft tissue Surgery/Radiofrequency – ENT assessment via referral.
Studies show a high degree of success for treatment with ‘MAD’S’. A variety of custom-made devices are available and most patients report a reduction/ in snoring over time!

What do I do next if I wish to seek advice?

Please contact us for a dental check-up, requesting a FREE CONSULTATION for a snoring assessment. In many cases treatment is successful with the use of ‘MAD’ to alleviate the problem!
